Le Canyon Torque was primarily designed to appeal to hill-climbing cyclists. For 2022, the German brand has unveiled an updated version that launches into the new season on three different wheel sizes, 27,5", 29" and a mixed wheel setup. With its sober and restrained look, the new Torque CF 8 2022 looks like its little brother, the Spectral. Whereas for €4 it is by far the cheapest bike in this segment. The CF 299 version is actually in the middle of the Torque range here. The flagship CF8 is sold at €9. Nevertheless, the affordable CF 5 still comes with a full carbon frame and features a generously sized seat and chainstay protector, a huge TPU plate on the downtube and even the UDH mechanical support of SRAM, on which you also get a bottle cage and a tool-strap mount on the top tube! Unfortunately, the latter rests on a single screw support, which makes itcompatible with standard tool straps. We recommend ordering the optional LOAD top tube bag from Canyon with your new mountain bike.
Specs say the 8 Torque CF 2022 15,8 lb. The 170mm FOX 38 Performance Elite fork shares the same GRIP2 damper as the Factory model, forgoing only the Kashima gloss coating and offering the same excellent performance as its high-end counterpart. The Torque is one of the only 2022 enduro mountain bikes with a coil shock. A FOX DHX2 Factory that controls 175mm of travel. An interesting detail is that Canyon delivers the new 8 Torque CF 2022 with two additional springs (3 total), allowing you to choose the spring rate that best suits your weight and riding style. Unfortunately, to change it you will need a bearing press to remove and reinstall the eyelet rings. A 12-speed Shimano XT drivetrain provides smooth and precise shifting, but the chain drags on the guide bar in the lowest gear. And even after several attempts, it is difficult to adjust it to eliminate the squealing noise. Despite its "freeride" genes, the Torque CF 8 2022 does not come with a bashguard. Shimano XT four-piston brakes with 200mm discs front and rear provide reliable and powerful deceleration. For grip and traction, Canyon combines a MAXXIS 2,5" ASSEGAI and a soft MaxxGrip in the front, and a 2,4" Minion DHR2 in the robust DoubleDown and a compdaring of harder MaxxTerra rubber on the back. For fast and heavy riders, we always recommend using tires with a robust carcass, both front and rear, so that you can ride at lower pressures and get better grip and better performance.
Unfortunately the DT Swiss wheelset with FR 560 rims require the spokes to be tightened after only a few laps. For the rest of the specification, Canyon relies on compinternal bones, y compris the new G5 telescopic rod: with a huge stroke of 200 mm, but offers the possibility of reducing it to 175 mm without any tools. Allowing you to tailor the maximum extension to suit your anatomy.
The new Canyon Torque CF 8 is available in three frame sizes, from M to XL. Base length is 435mm in all sizes. With 490 mm for a size L. The reach is quite long, ensuring great freedom of movement and thus inspiring great confidence with the 200 mm dropper post and the long frame insertion depth. Additionally, the short 445mm seat tube (size L) lets you choose the frame size based on your desired reach, while a piece in the seatstay lets you adjust the angle of the head and tail. 0,5° seat tube, as well as bottom bracket height.

Uphill, the pedaling position on the Torque is comfortable but the suspension tends to squirm slightly. As a result, the Torque is one of the least efficient climbers in the segment.
Downhill, the Torque isn't the most balanced bike in the 2022 enduro lineup. Geometry and rear suspension being the main reason for that. Combining a long front center and short chainstays, the torque forces you to actively weight the front wheel to keep it tracking. This especially in turns. Also, the coil shock has a tendency to rush throughout its stroke, even with a stiffer spring and less sag. As a result, the rear suspension sits deep in its travel, resulting in unbalanced and heavy rear weight distribution. Especially on flat, open corners where you have to actively load the front wheel to avoid understeer and loose handling. On the other hand, the Cannondale distributes weight evenly between the front and rear, allowing you to generate traction by pumping through the turns. Going downhill, you are well integrated with the bike and stowed safely between the wheels, which is a godsend on steep sections. Combined with the small rear wheel and excellent freedom of movement, this inspires great confidence on all kinds of descents. On fast trail sections, the Torque is as smooth as the Pivot Firebird. All in all, the Torque is great fun and encourages you to perform huge, fast jumps with confidence and blast your way down valley on steep trails with a big smile on your face.
The new Canyon Torque CF 8 2022 is an honest and unpretentious competitor and perfectly embodies the performance of Canyon ! However, with the imbalance of its suspension and geometry, it is also quite demanding and requires a skilled rider. On rough terrain, the smooth character inspires confidence and makes riding a lot of fun.
