Now in its third generation, since its launch in 2008, it's one of the best-handling race-oriented road bikes.
It also won a 2020 Road Bike of the Year title.
And Cannondale is certainly talking about the qualities of its 2021 SuperSix EVO, describing it as a light, smooth and super-fast bike built for speed.
This SuperSix EVO has all the features we expect from a road bike at this price point. Fitted with Shimano Ultegra mechanical groupset except for Cannondale's own One crankset with FSA chainrings and a host of compcannondale daring.
Cannondale confirms that its all-new SuperSix EVO is not only the lightest disc brake road frame it has ever made, but also that it is the newest frame with new technology SAVE - Synapse Active Micro-Suspension - from Cannondale. Technology designed to maximize comfort without sacrificing frame stiffness.
The 2021 frame features many of the design cues we've come to expect from today's high-end race bikes. Cannondale says the frame's stubby aero frame tubes weigh the same as round tubes but with equal or greater stiffness. The frame of the 2021 SuperSix EVO reduces aerodynamic drag by up to 30%.
Cannondale goes on to say that this saves you 30W at 30mph (48,3kph) compared to the 2020 SuperSix EVO frame.
The SuperSix EVO's seatstays are drastically dropped. Like at Giant we skipped a round seatpost and installed our own flat-back, narrow HollowGram KNOT carbon seatpost. Designed to reduce vibration and further improve aerodynamics.
The frame and fork both have Speed Release thru-axles which seem to be THE novelty this year and developed by Mavic. This allows for faster and cleaner wheel changes than a standard thru-axle because you don't need to remove compthe axle covered with grease slightly to change the wheel.
The geometry of the SuperSix EVO makes this Cannondale a fast race bike, and its numbers have a lot in common with those of the GIANT Equally popular TCR.
The frame angles on a 58cm frame are as close to the classic 73 degrees parallel and it makes no difference. A head angle of 73 degrees and a nearly as angular seat angle of 72,9 degrees.
These are paired with tight 408mm chainstays and a 1mm wheelbase. The track size is 005mm. The distance between the contact patch of the tire on the road and the steering axis is shorter meaning faster handling.
Cannondale put a lot of thought into the equipment of this SuperSix EVO. This is an Ultegra mechanical setup with Cannondale's One crankset with FSA 52/36 chainrings and a wide 11-32 cassette. This should allow you to climb the most difficult climbs. Shifting is smooth, Ultegra braking is powerful.
For the rest, it is mainly about own compcannondale daring. From the HollowGram carbon SystemBar aero bar to the HollowGram KNOT stem and HollowGram carbon wheels.
The cockpit looks great and makes the most of the SuperSix EVO's cable integration.
The stem has a forward-facing clampless design, which is an aerodynamic plus. The GPS mount integrated in the front contributes to the smooth and clean lines of the bike.
The Cannondale HollowGram carbon 35 wheels are impressive and weigh less than 1 gr. They are built around a 500mm deep carbon rim with an external width of 35mm and an internal width of 25mm. Which is ideal for SuperSix's Vittoria Rubino Pro G+ 19 2.0mm tyres.
The tires chosen are definitely a big improvement over Vittoria's stock low-end Rubino rubber.
The Rubino is a tough tire and here they feel just about fast enough, but they are flattered on the Cannondale by being wrapped around a lightweight, aero wheelset.
I would highly recommend upgrading to lighter and faster tires across the board, which would further increase the performance of the SuperSix EVO.
Developed in collaboration with Garmin, the front wheel of the SuperSix EVO has its own wheel sensor. .
The small sensor, which attaches to the spokes near the hub, measures speed, time and distance. It has built-in storage of up to 900 hours of information and runs on one CR2032 cell with a one-year battery life. It works with Cannondale's app. Or any main unit compusable with BLE or ANT+.
To connect your bike to the Cannondale app, just spin the front wheel. This allows you to register your bike for its warranty. It also allows you to display just about any driving metric you can think of plus a few more that are a bit more surprising.
In addition to the usual driving distance, speed and calories you've consumed, you can tap into how much fuel you've saved by riding instead of driving, how much CO2 you've saved and receive reminders of "health" for your bike, so you no longer have any excuses for forgetting to lubricate and maintain it.
The app also contains links to technical manuals and service procedures for your bike. Such as how to bleed hydraulic brakes.
You can also save more than one bike, save your cycling achievements and goals, and the app also has an x-ray feature. An augmented reality screen shows what's happening under your bike's skin. Such as interior and cable routing.
You can use the app as a standalone trip log - it can log and save 30 days of driving or log in to Strava.
For this 2021 model, Cannondale has taken everything that made its predecessors such successful machines and taken it even higher.
All things considered, the 2021 SuperSix EVO is just as much of a star as it already was in 2020. But it now faces tougher competition than before.
It's a bike that's gotten better with age, a bike that gives you a true superbike experience without having to spend the usual five figures on this kind of road bike.
