The practice of Enduro explodes! This despite the current bottleneck in the supply chain. The bicycle industry is moving fast, embracing new technologies and replacing old philosophies with new ones. All this is done to give you more and more pleasure in the practice of enduro on new machines adapted to rough terrain.
That's because enduro mountain bikes are still decidedly the Swiss army knives of mountain bikes. The ultimate pass for adrenaline junkies looking for fun! For 2022, several manufacturers are banking on mixed wheel sizes, reinterpreting the concept of high-travel suspension and taking the design to a whole new level. It was the perfect opportunity to research the best enduro bike of 2022 and debunk the questionable half-truths and overzealous marketing claims. With this great 2022 enduro mountain bike test, we'll help you spend your hard-earned money wisely and avoid the frustration of buying the wrong machine. Plus, it's a way to answer all the most important questions about rear suspension designs, wheel sizes and other manufacturer choices.
While it's true that we all share the same deep love for mountain biking, it's equally true that everyone has their own unique needs and preferences. "Home trail" is a broad concept: for some it is a flowing trail in the Bavarian Prealps, for others a gnarly Double Black Diamond in British Columbia, a dusty hiking trail in Provence or a sketchy rocky path dotted with cacti in Sedona. But even if all the trails in the world were identical, each rider would take them in his own way. In other words, riding style, climate and terrain are decisive factors in choosing the right mountain bike. As such, the goal is not to find out which bike is the fastest, smoothest and most playful on a certain trail, but to determine which one best suits your needs, preferences and style. driving. This necessitates an evaluation of enduro mountain bikes based on varied perspectives rather than a rigid rating system in which individual parameters are considered. Moreover, it is not only each cyclist but also each bicycle manufacturer who defines and interprets the concept of enduro in their own way.
This diverse trial compdare of 11 of the most exciting enduro mountain bikes for the year 2022. While all pursue the same goal, each does it in its own way, relying on different technical solutions and price points. With a huge price range from €4 to €499, different wheel configurations, different suspension concepts, including compris of Horst linkage and high travel designs, an e-MTB, a mountain bike with RockShox's Flight Electronic suspension system and much more. Not only is our testing field extremely diverse and exciting, but it also gives us a unique opportunity to test and evaluate different systems. This allows us to provide valuable advice. Who says a cheaper bike has to be worse than its high-end, expensive counterpart? We can already say that the overall performance has again improved significantly for the coming season. Despite the huge price range, it was a damn tight race for the title of “Best Enduro ATV of 2022”.
To be clear, there is no such thing as a thoroughbred enduro bike. The standard bicycle categories have gradually fallen into oblivion and classic parameters such as: Stroke, wheel size or geometry are no longer able to serve as a general guide to the intended use of a bicycle. This is not to mention his driving character. Instead, it is far more important to blend the individual handling characteristics into a cohesive overall package suited to the intended application. Unfortunately, some manufacturers still have a lot of work to do in this regard!
It pays to look for the perfect versatility. A versatile enduro mountain bike that can provide optimum riding pleasure in all situations, from fast and rough trails to narrow and steep technical terrain. Whether you're on an epic expedition in the Alps or cruising your way after a hard day's work or chasing your friends down the A-Line, the best enduro bike of 2022 must be able to get your endorphins going. fluid while handling the most demanding trails in the world! Let's leave our stopwatch at the office and focus on the versatility and "fun" factor of mountain bikes. Let's voluntarily exchange super times for good times!

Manufacturers such as YT, Specialized, Canyon and Nukeproof are definitely at the top of the list of brands you consider for your next purchase. Frankly, we'd be missing the point if we didn't include them in this test. High-travel suspension designs and mixed wheel sizes are among the hottest topics of the year and bikes like the Cannondale Jekyll, GT Force and Santa Cruz Bronson have given us the opportunity to dig deeper into the topic and answer the most important questions.
Riding a diverse proving ground not only finds the best enduro mountain bike of 2022, but also answers the following questions:
What defines a good enduro mountain bike, or what does it take to be the king of enduro in 2022? Not much has changed and you also know that fun is high on the priority list. After all, that's why most of us ride mountain bikes.
A mountain bike's fun factor depends on a multitude of factors that must be considered collectively and in their combined interactions to define the kind of emotions a bike unleashes on the trail. What is a bicycle capable of? Where are its limits? What type of rider, terrain and application is it best suited for and who should be looking for a different type of bike? These are the key questions that are at the heart of all reviews. To work on what makes a bike work and thus provide you with the best possible advice for your buying decisions. It is not a rigid rating system but an examination and evaluation of the myriad factors that define its character and the individual characteristics that set it apart from the competition.
They must combine supposedly contradictory driving characteristics. The best enduro mountain bike should be nimble, direct and fun while offering huge safeties at high speeds. Needless to say, specifications, frame features and build quality also play a crucial role. Climbing performance also has an impact on the overall score, although to a lesser extent. Since we ride all of our bikes on real trails, it makes sense to test the bikes on real dirt and in real conditions. Instead of rating bikes based on isolated lab values and using a rigid rating system for compdaring, the presentation of each bike is done through an honest and thorough examination. For a better overview, it is useful to compalign the bikes with each other. This is done by rating their individual handling characteristics on a scale of 1-10. compreason within this group test. To help you compmake the testing process, let's explain the most important factors for the ratings.
As the name of this group test suggests, we are looking for an enduro bike, not a Cross Country climber. To shine in this test, a mountain bike must offer a comfortable and balanced riding position that is suitable for long days in the saddle. A good enduro mountain bike should be easy to pedal and get you to the trailhead with as little physical effort as possible. This can only be achieved with a suspension that works efficiently on the climbs but still generates sufficient traction on the descents - the Firebird shock is very good at this! Here, assistive technologies like the YT Capra's RockShox Flight electronic suspension system or the 35 Nm motor of the Specialized S-Works Kenevo SL brings huge benefits to the trail.
Trying to determine the handling of a bike based on isolated geometric values is not only wrong, but also risky. Despite nearly identical geometry, the handling differs hugely. Indeed, the suspension, the relationship between the measurements (i.e. the range to stack ratio) and the configuration playing a major role. A good enduro bike positions its rider centrally. It is intuitive and easy to maneuver and can forgive minor driving mistakes. Whether you're a beginner or just really tired after a long day in the saddle, intuitive and predictable handling is a blessing. However, some bikes are the exact opposite, requiring a lot of concentration and excellent compdriving skills. Forcing you to actively shift your weight around the bike to generate traction. If you're not 100% in control, the slightest mistake can quickly lead to a crash.
Suspension performance is not determined solely by the quality or characteristics of its compdaring, but also heavily influenced by damper tuning and setup. In other words, there's only one way to know how your suspension performs: take your bike to the trail! The perfect suspension is a good compromis that combines a high level of traction and responsiveness with ample mid-stroke support. Lots of pop for playful maneuvers and good reserves for failed landings. Bikes like the Orbea Rallon and SIMPLON Rapcon gobble up nasty impacts with ease and still generate plenty of traction. This allows you to focus on the track ahead.
We all just want to ride and not spend all day fixing breakages or punctures on the edge of the track. This is why it is crucial to choose your specification according to the intended use. However many bike manufacturers still cheat to reduce weight and make their bikes look better on paper and in the workshop! 7 out of 11 mountain bikes in this test rely on a lighter but also more fragile tire carcass. Like the MAXXIS EXO+ and the Schwalbe SuperTrail. Tires with thin casings provide less sidewall support, forcing you to run higher tire pressures to avoid pinch flats and costly tears. Unfortunately this comes at the expense of grip and traction. Needless to say, mounting flimsy tires on expensive carbon rims could easily lead to damage.
Small brake rotors, like the ones you get with the Orbea Rallon and Santa Cruz Bronson tend to overheat quickly. This results in an inconsistent bite point. Regardless of your compdriving skills, this can quickly lead to sore arms and additional fatigue. Fortunately, all manufacturers in this test rely on powerful four-piston brakes. Bikes like the GT Force are fitted with a high quality SRAM X01 rear derailleur. However, on closer inspection you will notice that GT has combined the bling X01 derailleur with a cheaper GX shifter, cassette and chain. While the fancy rear derailleur might look great in the shop, it doesn't weigh much less than its cheaper GX counterpart, and it doesn't offer any real performance benefit on the trail.
For very few bikes in this test, the specs do full justice to the mountain bike's potential and are suitable for its intended use - only the SIMPLON Rapcon and Nukeproof Giga tick all the boxes in this respect. That's why "Tuning Tips" with the most beneficial and cost-effective upgrades are added at the bottom of each review.
Clever and useful frame features can indirectly dramatically increase the fun factor of an enduro bike. For example additional storage options such as a compbuilt-in storage item or tool holder on the frame. This allows you to leave your backpack or fanny pack at home and keep your back cool on hot summer days. On the other hand, threaded bottom bracket shells make it easy to replace punctured bearings, saving you time and hassle in the shop. All mountain bikes in this group have bottle cage threads and five frames also have a tool mount on the top tube. Additionally, the Orbea Rallon and SIMPLON Rapcon come with a compstorage unit integrated into the downtube. In this regard, more is always better and each additional storage option is one less item you have to carry on your body. This also reduces the risk of injury! Internal cable routing, frame protection, universal spares and additional plastic covers like a fender help reduce wear while increasing the fun factor and improving the looks of the bike. Generously sized guards on the frame chainstays, seatstays and downtube ensure a quiet ride and protect the frame from stray stones. That being said, some of the ATVs in this test make a loud rattling noise on the trail, which can be frustrating when you've just spent a lot of money. the GT Force is one of them! Most of the mountain bikes in this test are equipped with SRAM's UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) which should be easy to find at just about any bike shop around the world. In contrast, conventional mechanical hangers are frame specific and must come directly from the manufacturer or distributor.
In testing, price plays a secondary role, although the price of a bike should always be commensurate with its performance. Let's remain primarily concerned with a bike's performance on the track and for its riding benefits. What is the point of highlighting the compmost expensive daring tires available on the market if the bike does not perform well on the track? Even expensive bikes with low-end specs can offer good value for money, provided they deliver where it does. compyou really. In the same way as the supposedly cheap bikes with good compdaring ones can get a bad grade if they don't deliver on the track. What compte really is the interaction of all the elements.
How did the individual competitors comported during our group test? For a better overview, each MTB is presented with its respective highs and flops.
Sold for €4, the elegant Canyon Torque CF8 2022 marks the lower end of the price range in our test area. Its specifications embody the performance of Canyon compared to the equipment approach. But the unbalanced suspension leads to vague handling, making the Torque an average track performer. It is only on very fast trails that the Canyon has become a lot of fun to ride. In theory, you might expect the 1 Cannondale Jekyll 2022 and 2022 GT Force Carbon PRO LE, to feature similar handling. Although both mountain bikes rely on a high-travel suspension design, they are as different as day and night on the trail. The GT lacks composure in all situations and forces you to remain alert at all times. With its inconsistent specifications, this makes it the biggest disappointment of the whole test. Really sorry for the GT Force! On the other hand, the Cannondale is particularly convincing on fast and rough descents. Its plush but efficient suspension inspires a lot of confidence and at the same time generates excellent traction. To keep up with the Jekyll you'll need a killer like the Nukeproof Giga 290C Factory which has the perfect specs for this test as well as great suspension and a very strong character. complet. Unfortunately, the latter lacks agility and therefore qualities comprequired to be the ultimate enduro.
The RockShox Flight Attendant electronic suspension of the YT CAPRA UNCAGED 6 2022 is a plus especially when it comes to climbing. On top of that, the Capra is incredibly playful and eager to get some fresh air. The Pivot Firebird XT/XTR 2022 offers almost as good climbing performance but without the help of electronics. Downhill, it impresses with its super progressive suspension and almost unlimited reserves. That being said, you will need good compriding skills and impeccable technique to unleash the full potential of the Firebird and prevent it from knocking you out of the saddle. Conversely, the Specialized S-Works Turbo Kenevo SL 2022 is super intuitive. With its 35 Nm motor, it outruns the competition on the way to the trailhead and shines on its way back down the valley. Unfortunately here he lacks agility and the equipment leaves a lot to be desired. This in particular compgiven its exorbitant price. In contrast, the 01 Santa Cruz Bronson CC X2022 AXS is super nimble and easy to maneuver. With its mule setup and the least amount of travel in the entire proving ground, it's the undisputed king of the corners and still inspires so much confidence on really steep descents. However the Bronson does not like to go fast. cWhich is an essential prerequisite for off-road. To come out on top compdition, the best enduro bike of the year must perform in all situations, even on fast trails.
Only the top three competitors in this test managed to unite the supposedly opposing criteria of agility and bite. Among them was last year's test winner, the 90 Rocky Mountain Altitude C2021 Rally Edition, which once again showed what it was made of and why it deserved to win last year's test. However, that wasn't enough to secure victory for the second time in a row and Altitude had to settle for third place this year. The latter is placed just behind our Best Buy. the 2022 Orbea Rallon M-Team and our best in Test just like the 170 SIMPLON Rapcon 165/2022. No other bike in this test strikes such a good balance between bite and softness as the SIMPLON and the Orbea. Plus, our Best in Test and Best Buy stand out from the competition with several smart frame features, smart storage solutions, and consistent specs. This delivers exactly what we were looking for in our 'Best Enduro Mountain Bike of 2022' test: a brilliant riding experience and lots of fun on all kinds of terrain.
An underdog outclasses the biggest bike manufacturers in the world? And why not? In our test, the SIMPLON Rapcon 170/165 2022 delivered an outstanding performance, achieving more than any of us thought possible and earning a well-deserved Best in Test. Although by a very narrow margin! It managed to unite supposed opposites, combining excellent bite, exceptional agility and super intuitive handling into a harmonious whole like no other mountain bike tested. In addition to the excellent personalized equipment which can be adapted to your needs and preferences using SIMPLON's online configurator. The Rapcon offers great freedom of movement thanks to its short seat tube and generous seatpost insertion depth. It inspires a lot of confidence. Add a polished look, smart frame details and smart storage solutions.
Yes, Orbea dropped a rattle by specifying a small rear rotor on their 2022 Rallon M-Team. However, upgrading a rotor is pretty cheap and isn't really rocket science. In addition, the Spaniards promised us to add a larger rotor to the MyO configurator. On the aesthetic side, the configurator also allows you to customize the appearance of your new Rallon in detail. THE compLockR storage device and the mini-tool integrated in the main swivel are the icing on the cake. Together with the impressive suspension and the high fun factor, this makes the Basque enduro mountain bike a superb all-rounder. As a result, the $2022 6 Rallon M-Team secures our coveted Best Buy!
In the "Best Enduro Bike of 2022" test, the 90 Rocky Mountain Altitude C2021 Rally Edition entered the race as the defending champion, once again proving what it's capable of with its adjustable geometry and specs. consistent. On the track, he impressed with excellent versatility qualities and super intuitive handling in all situations. However, our Best in Test and our Best Buy both delivered an even more impressive overall performance. On top of that, the Altitude doesn't offer any storage solutions and only offers limited freedom of movement. Thus narrowly missing out on victory in this year's group test. Nonetheless, it's still an awesome bike that delivers great performance, which is why it still comes highly recommended!
