Muscular and electric mountain bike VTTAE occasion: cross country - am all mountain - enduro - freeride - dirt - DH

Used electric mountain bike VTTAE

Second-hand e-MTBs or e-MTBs are the most fun type of e-bike in the e-bike category. In France, Belgium and Switzerland, this “new” sport offers sensations usually reserved for experienced “mountain bikers” cyclists. The greatest historic mountain bike brands have made no mistake in offering a wide range for all budgets.

This electric mountain bike market is progressing especially in second-hand. Indeed, no less than 450 VTTAEs were sold in 000. These bicycles reserved for leisure evolve from year to year and prices are falling. eMTBs are therefore more and more accessible second-hand. It's a sturdier bike built for adventure, but the wear and tear is certainly more noticeable on an electric mountain bike than on a regular e-bike. The great diversity of models can confuse the mind of an uninformed amateur. For this, we have developed form fields to specify a number of specificities that will help you make your choice. Mountain biking – cross-country – am – all mountain – enduro – freeride. trial – dirt – downhill DH.

You will find what suits you by selecting the search fields on vente-son-velo.com.

Growth of the second-hand market

While sales of electric bicycles in France increased by more than 25%, the share of second-hand VTTAE electric mountain bikes is progressing and is approaching “muscular” mountain biking. Buying a second-hand VTTAE turns out to be a headache, because all types of VTT or VTT practices are found in the choice of electric. The family touring mountain bike, the cross country mountain bike close to the compEdition on hilly and technical courses, enduro or all mountain mountain biking also have their models for more committed mountain biking.

Operating principle of a VTTAE electrically assisted mountain bike

VTTAE are bicycles to which we have added a battery and an electric motor. You still have to pedal but the motor can give you assistance if needed. Which is very pleasant on the climbs for example. The electrically assisted bicycle is particularly suitable for daily journeys. To get to work avoiding traffic jams!

The assistance motor can be located either at the level of the crankset or in one of the wheels. This engine is powered by a battery of different powers which allows the user to be assisted with a variable autonomy ranging from 40 to more than 100 km. eMTBs generally have several mountain bike-specific assistance modes. This allows you to regulate range and pedal assistance. Namely that for an electric bicycle to remain a bicycle under French, Belgian and Swiss law, it must respect the criteria defined by the EN15194 standard :

• The assistance must cut off from 25 km/h
• The assistance must stop when the user stops pedaling
• Motor rated power must not exceed 250 Watts

The VTTAE electric mountain bike battery

On an electrically assisted bicycle, the battery is the most expensive and at the same time the most fragile element. It is therefore always necessary to be very attentive to the quality of the battery when buying second-hand. The battery can be changed easily, but sometimes at a high cost compared to the overall price of the bike. Well-known brands such as: Bosch, Yamaha, Panasonic, Shimano, Samsung have longer operating times.

The capacity of a battery is expressed in Amperes/hours, Watts and Volts. Amperage indicates the electricity available in your battery. The voltage the voltage of the electric motor of your bike. If you multiply the amperage by the voltage you get Watt-hours. It is therefore the amount of energy in your battery when it is full.

To respect the Standard EN15194, your electric bike is electronically limited to 250 Wh. But good news, the extra power is reflected in greater autonomy.
The amperage is an indicator of the autonomy and the voltage of the power. Therefore, the higher the amperage, the greater the autonomy. The higher the voltage, the easier it will be for you to climb the hills that connect your home to your work. You must also keep compdepending on the level of assistance selected, the autonomy can thus vary from simple to triple.

A quality battery lasts between 700 and 1000 recharge cycles. A battery ages and will lose capacity over time. Manufacturers consider your battery to be replaced when it has lost more than 30% capacity. It is estimated that the cost of recharging is a few cents for 50 km and €1 for 1000 km. The real consumption of an electric bike is therefore not its electricity consumption, but the depreciation of your battery.
